"Day of the Dead" altar work exhibition in Lamm House.With the purpose of preserving the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead, the past October 27th. of 2005, the Center of Culture Lamm House, located in Mexico city, presented a spectacular exhibition where the concept of "the death", their interpretations and perceptions were materialized by the new proposal of two contemporary artists.The pieces shown by the artists of "Arte en Barro" were in their majority "Catrinas"; in addition to "trees of the life". The sample, conformed by the altar and the pieces before mentioned created a beautiful sphere to the main Hall of this center of Culture. The entrance of the cultural center was spectacularly decorated by a colorful arc of flowers; as well as the stair that conduced to the hall where the exhibition was exposed. The event was also brightened up with folkloric music from Oaxaca (A state in the south of Mexico).The dead altar, traditionally mounted with offerings, specially of food, drinks, flowers, candles and the smell that gives the mystic touch to this act (incense) was enchanted with the clay pieces elaborated by the exhibitors.Each one of the shown pieces were carefully designed and painted by hand by the artists using acrylic colors, that combined to the imagination of its creators generated new textures applied to the clay, thanks to these materials and their brilliants colors, they simulated textile material in each one of their pieces; creating in this way a completely original collection.In order to see photos of the exhibition, please click here.
